Veterinarians:
Sue Shivers, DVM
Dr. Shivers grew up in Des Moines. She graduated from Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. After working in New York for a few years, she returned to iowa and practiced in Burlington, Iowa for 4 years before taking over Creature Comforts Veterinary Hospital in 2005. She has a few cats, a few horses, and a few dogs. Special interests include running, triathlon training, and horseback riding.
Bryce Kibbel, DVM
Dr. Kibbel grew up on a farm in North Dakota. He also graduated from Iowa State in 1999. He initially worked in Kansas, New York, and eastern Iowa before coming to Creature Comforts Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Kibbel also teaches anatomy to the veterinary students at Iowa State. Special interests include advanced dentistry and surgery. His outside interest is field trialing dogs.
Portia Appel, DVM
Dr. Appel joined Creature Comforts in January 2011. She graduated from Iowa State University in 2004. After graduation, she completed a small animal internship in Northern California, then returned to Iowa where she worked as an emergency veterinarian for 5 years. She has a special interest in internal medicine. Dr. Appel resides in Boone with her husband, daughter, and family pets, including a Yellow Lab, Boston Terrier, and two horses. Dr. Appel's outside interests include traveling, hiking, horseback riding, and spending time with family.
Beth Kaiser, DVM
Dr. Kaiser joined Creature Comforts in May 2011. Before entering veterinary medicine, Dr. Kaiser worked as a registered nurse, specializing in cardiology. While she enjoyed her time in human medicine, her true passion has always been animals. Dr. Kaiser resides in Urbandale with her husband and their four-legged children - Fritz, Myles, and Taylor. Her interests outside of veterinary medicine include her family, church, gardening, and traveling.
