Veterinarians:

Sue Shivers, DVM

Dr. Shivers grew up in Des Moines.  She graduated from Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999.  After working in New York for a few years, she returned to Iowa and practiced in Burlington for 4 years before taking over Creature Comforts Veterinary Hospital in 2005.  Sue has a few cats, a few horses, and a few dogs.  Special interests include running, triathlon training, and horseback riding.

 

 

 

 

Portia Appel, DVM

Dr. Appel joined Creature Comforts Veterinary Hospital in January 2011.  She graduated from Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004.  After graduation, she completed a small animal internship in Northern California, then returned to Iowa where she worked as an emergency veterinarian for 5 years.  She has a special interest in internal medicine.  Portia resides in Boone with her husband, children and family pets -- including a Yellow Lab, Boston Terrier, and two horses.  Her outside interests include traveling, hiking, horseback riding, and spending time with family.

 

 

 

 

Pamela Erdman, DVM

Dr. Erdman joined Creature Comforts Veterinary Hospital in June, 2012.  After graduation she worked for a small-animal practice in Illinois and then relocated back to Iowa.  Dr. Erdman has worked for the past 6 years in West Des Moines as a small-animal veterinarian specializing in small animal medicine.  Pam resides here in Ankeny with her husband and two daughters. 

 


Laurie Meythaler-Mullins, MS, DVM, CVA

Dr. Meythaler-Mullins grew up in Des Moines, Iowa.  Dr. Meythaler-Mullins attended Iowa State University on a track & cross country scholarship.  She went on to receive a MS from the University of Florida and her DVM from ISU.  She is also a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist and we are proud to offer acupuncture in addition to our other veterinary services here at Creature Comforts Veterinary Hospital!  Laurie and her husband have two children, two dogs, and a fish.  

 

Ashley Williams, DVM

Dr. Williams joined Creature Comforts Veterinary Hospital in April, 2013.  She received her degree in Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 2011.  After graduation she worked for a small animal practice and animal shelter in West Des Moines.  Dr. Williams has been passionate about becoming a veterinarian since she was a little girl on her grandparent's farm in southwest Iowa.  She spent many summers riding cows and playing with farm kittens.  Dr. Williams currently resides in Bondurant with her husband (Chris), Golden Retriever (Paisley) and cat (Smoke).  During her free time, Ashley enjoys spending time with friends and family, boating, and attending Iowa State football games!
